Telephoto landscape photography is a creative way to capture distant scenes and details that are often overlooked by the naked eye. To get started with this genre, you will need a telephoto lens, a tripod, and a remote shutter release. A telephoto lens is one that has a focal length of 70mm or more, and it allows you to zoom in on your subject and compress the perspective. A tripod is essential to keep your camera steady and avoid camera shake, especially at longer focal lengths. A remote shutter release is a device that lets you trigger the shutter without touching the camera, which can also cause unwanted vibrations. Some tips for telephoto landscape photography are:
- Look for patterns, shapes, textures, and colors that create visual interest and contrast.
- Use a small aperture (large f-number) to increase the depth of field and keep everything in focus.
- Use a polarizing filter to reduce glare and enhance the colors and contrast of the sky and water.
- Experiment with different compositions and perspectives by changing your position and zooming in or out.
- Be patient and wait for the right light and weather conditions to capture the mood and atmosphere of the scene.

One of my favorite techniques in photography is shooting panoramas with a telephoto lens. I got asked a lot about this technique, so I decided to create a full video and article in which I’ll go through the entire process.
